Between 1978 and 1986, I started my professional career in the hospitality industry in European deluxe 5-Star Hotels in Germany, England and Switzerland.
After studying several executive intense courses at the Hospitality College of Cornell University, USA, I joined the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in Atlanta 1987.
During my nearly eight years of service at Ritz-Carlton, I worked in many countries and capacities including as General Manager of the Ritz-Carlton Hotels in New York, Houston and Sydney, as Senior Vice President of Australian Operations, and as Senior Vice President of Development and Operations for Europe and the Middle East.
After my time in the hospitality industry, I wanted to experience something new, moved back to Germany, and became Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Deutsche Entertainment AG (DEAG) in Berlin. Here, I was responsible for the overall operation strategy of the company, and the planning and execution of the Initial Public Offering (IPO) at the German Stock Exchange, where the company is still listed today.
In 2014, I joined the Thanyapura Sports & Health Resort Phuket as CEO and President, and became Executive Chairman and President of the Thanyapura World Singapore Group of companies in 2015. Here I am also the founder, shareholder and director.
In 2020 I relocated to China, where I am Executive Chairman and President of our Thanyapura Holding Company in Suzhou. My responsibility is to oversee the development and management of Thanyapura Hotels and Resorts in China.
In my capacity as a Philanthropist, I am the Co-Founder of the United World College (UWC) in Thailand, and for some years I served as a member on the UWC International Development Board.
I am the founder of the ‘Children’s World Academy’ Foundations in Germany and Thailand, and of the private-public welfare and education model school ‘Yaowawit’ in Thailand.
I was the Director of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Shoah Foundation’, and I am an ambassador of the ‘Stifterverband fuer die Deutsche Wissenschaft’.
For my work and engagement in the hospitality industry in Thailand, I was rewarded with an honorary doctor degree (Dr. h.c.) by Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and the Rajamangala University Songkhla.
