What keeps you motivated? Is it to, accomplish something you never thought you could? Set a good example for your children? Have that feeling of bettering yourself? Or is it seeing the results?
Everyone is different so to have a slice of everyone’s pie I’ve asked some of our Instagram #fitfam what keeps them motivated as well as their go-to motivational quote.
Clare Zappala - @clare_zappala Runner. Triathlete. Personal Trainer.
“On days when the going gets tough and training seems like the craziest thing in the world (these days happen a little too often), I remind myself that I don’t actually have to train – I GET to train! I’m lucky enough to be able to swim, cycle, run and call myself a crazy triathlete
Clare’s go-to motivational quote: “Work until your idols become your rivals”
Shane Burke - @burkys42 Husband. Father. Triathlete.
“My main motivation for what I do is my two kids.I want to be a healthy role model and show them that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. My kids get me out of the door each day but what gets me through those dark moments on long rides is the death of my best mate who was tragically killed in a car accident 3 years ago. So when I start complaining that it’s hurting too much or feel like quitting, I think of him and remind myself of how lucky I am to be here.”
Shane’s go-to motivational quote: “Don’t count the days. Make the days count” – Muhammad Ali
Hayley Newman - @haylz_runs_in_aus Runner. Future Triathlete.
“I stay motivated just to be the best I can be. When my alarm goes off, I don’t think about anything… I just shoot straight up, get dressed and I’m out the door! This way there is no time to doubt myself. I have always been quite a head strong person so if I set my mind to something, that’s it.”
Hayley’s go-to motivational quote: “I will beat her. I will train harder. I will eat cleaner. I know her weaknesses. I know her strengths. I’ve lost to her before. But not this time. She is going down. I have the advantage, because I know her well. She is the old me.” – Bonnie Pfiester
Jake Bart - @jake_bart Triathlete. Lifeguard. Law Student.
“I stay motivated because I always want to be improving myself and my race performances. I feel if I’m not getting better then I am getting worse.”
Jake’s go-to motivational quote: “If you don’t believe it then no one else will”
And for me? My health, keeps me motivated, after being diagnosed with a Chronic Disease and requiring surgery I have been motivated to get better and to cure my incurable disease. I’m motivated to research more, eat better, exercise, and meditate all for my health and of course for my loved ones.
My go-to motivational quote: “Just do it” – Nike
Nike ‘ticks’ all the right boxes when it comes to a motivational slogan: short, simple and straight to the point. Yep, it’s really as simple as just doing it. Think it, say it, just do it!
