Thanyapura Phuket has been named Asia’s Leading Sports Resort at the 22nd annual World Travel Awards, renowned as the most prestigious and comprehensive of its kind in the travel and tourism industry – the ‘ultimate hallmark of quality’ and the ‘benchmark to which all others aspire’.
Thanyapura received the accolade at the Asia and Australasia Gala Ceremony 2015 at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong on 29 October, an event that attracted the industry’s key decision-makers, chief figureheads and the leading trade and consumer media.
“This is a great honour and the ultimate validation of the industry-leading health and fitness model we’ve established,” said Mr Philipp Graf von Hardenberg, Thanyapura President and Chief Executive Officer. “We set very high standards every day and receiving a world travel award makes us very proud. We truly appreciate that our commitment to our guests, athletes and patients is recognized.”
“But glory is fleeting so this price makes us want to work harder so that we continue to raise the bar and maintain our position as Asia’s leading sports training, education and active healthy lifestyle destination.”
In handing Thanyapura the Gold Winner’s Shield, World Travel Awards President and Founder Graham E Cooke said the gong recognised the venue’s ‘commitment to excellence’.
“Using the Gold Winner’s Shield will show customers you continually endeavour to improve products and services,” he said.
Hundreds of thousands of travel professionals and high-end tourism consumers vote in the World Travel Awards, with Thanyapura set to go head to head with the other regional winners from around the planet in a final round of voting to decide the Grand Final victors of the awards.
Being named Asia’s Leading Sports Resort is another highlight for a venue that attracts some of the world’s best athletes to use its state-of-the-art facilities, while also catering to amateur enthusiasts looking to improve their performance and people who want to feel and look better by tapping Thanyapura’s patented body, mind and soul approach to health and fitness.
It is an approach that resulted in swimming’s governing body, FINA, choosing Thanyapura for its “Targeting Rio 2016” project – a partnership in which 26 Southeast Asian scholarship-holders are living and training at the facility ahead of competing at the 2016 Rio Olympics. It is also known for its triathlon training with programs led by four-time World Champion and Executive Chairman Chris Macca McCormack.
Thanyapura is set on 23 pristine hectares beside a national park close to Phuket International Airport and the destination’s famed beaches but cocooned in a serene setting. It utilises international-standard coaches, sports scientists, medical and health practitioners, physiotherapists and chiropractors.
Its other facilities include a 900 sqm gym with all-day fitness group activities, a Wellness Centre, a 115 room hotel with a pool or garden view, DiVine Restaurant and Booster Deli & Bar, where an extensive range of organic food grown at Thanyapura’s own farm underpins the menu and the Thanyapura Integrative Health Centre (TIHC).
