Thanyapura’s top cyclists took to the streets of Phuket town on the weekend to race in the Southern Criterium Night Race – with four placing in the top ten.
Hundreds of cyclists in seven different categories competed in the high speed night time race around the streets of Phuket town – with some racers doing as much as 30km in the humid racing conditions.
Each cyclist had to complete a 2km lap either 5, 12 or 15 times depending on the category they were racing in.
Excited spectators cheered by the finish line as the cyclists battled it out for first place. Thanyapura’s cyclists triumphed in the race and placed in the top ten for the men’s 15 lap race and in the top three for the men’s 12 lap race.
Cyclist Amarni Gates came an impressive third in the Road Bike Men 12 laps with a time of 37 minutes and 32 seconds; while in the Road Bike Men’s Elite 15 laps Paul Amey stormed to fifth place, followed shortly by David Escolar Ballesteros and Jaray Jearanai – all with a speedy time of 41 minutes and 37 seconds.
In the woman’s road bike 5 lap race, Dimity Duke came first with a time of 16 minutes and 15 seconds followed by Kerri Izzo in fifth place just 25 seconds later. Both Dimity Duke and Kerri Izzo train here at Thanyapura.
