November Update — Aquatics

Train with us and rise to the challenge among inspiring performances!

Thanyapura hosts the Finswimming Asian Championships

The Asian FinSwim games (including the 14th Asian Championships and Junior Finswimming Competitions) showcased the best fin athletes in Asia from November 4-9. With a new world record of 15.06 seconds set recently in the 50m by Pavel Kabanov of Russia, all eyes were on the action in the water.

Hosting an international competition while continuing with the normal training schedules, plus the logistics of feeding and directing hundreds of athletes and coaches was not an easy task but once again, the team at Thanyapura rose to the occasion. We would like to commend Virapol Cholvibul (Kai) and Marianne Jongsma for capably handling the weight of organizing such a major event.

Silverfinz Win at ISB-Bangkok Panthers Swim Meet

Our home team, the Thanyapura Silverfinz, had an outstanding competition at the ISB-Bangkok Panthers Swim Meet, winning seven individual events, both female relays, and all improving their personal best times — like Siamy Yapp improving her best event (the 100m backstroke) by a whopping 5 seconds, and Natalya Dougall chopping off 20 seconds in the 200m IM. Furthermore, “Nok” Tanakrit Kittiya brought home the individual male high point trophy, while “Golf” Kornkanjana Sapianchai secured the female high point trophy. To cap it off, the Silverfinz took the team high point trophy!

Meanwhile, “Garfield” Loessathapornsuk participated at the Asian Beach Games, achieving 8th place in the 500-meter open water event. Congratulations to all!

World-Class Swim Training at Any Age

With the coming and going of different national teams doing there for the World Swimming Championships in Doha, our EJSA Silverfinz were exposed to swimming with the world’s best and enjoyed the challenge.
The sold-out “Hell Week Swim Camp” master’s group from Australia led by Brenton Ford provided a different perspective, proving that being competitive and finding improvement in the swim does not end at age twenty — it’s all in the state of mind!

What is the most important part of the swim stroke? What role does head position play in making you faster or slower? Coach Miguel Lopez Alvarado provides some excellent gems of advice to help you get faster in the water.
